It not just work, at each workday, we stop
for two tea breaks, one mid morning and the
other mid afternoon. Tea or coffee and a biscuit
are provided.

Bridge building in Spearywell Wood, which is
on the Mottisfont
estate. The new bridge will provide easy access
for visitors to this site. A satisfying feeling
standing on a bridge that you have helped
build!

Every year we try to organize a weekend away
at a site outside our normal area. Here we were
working to try to reduce the erosion caused by
rabbits at Cissbury Ring in Sussex

Our main winter task within the New
Forest is
cutting and burning some of the invasive species
that grow there. Here a Scots Pine is being cut
at Ibsley.
This is a very important job, as it helps to
maintain the balance. If they were not cut, the
invasive species would soon spread and many
other important plants and habitats would be
lost.

We have many opportunities to learn about the
management of the sites within our area. Here
Philip Marshall, the head warden for South West
Hampshire is taking us for a guided walk around
Mottisfont.

Every year on the Sunday nearest to November
5th, we have a bonfire night event. We spend the
day cutting and clearing an area of Scots Pine,
and then as it starts to get dark we enjoy a
Barbecue, before some fireworks!

Cheers! We do hope that these photos have given
you an idea of the both sides of the South
Hampshire National Trust Volunteers, Work and
Play.
