CARING FOR THE COUNTRYSIDE OF SOUTH HAMPSHIRE.

The National Trust owns around 5,000 acres of open countryside in South Hampshire. This includes ancient woodland, farmland, chalk downland and lowland heath.

 What is Countryside Management?

From grassy downs sprinkled with flowers to sunny woodland glades, Hampshire has some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country. But while these places often look natural, there is a vast amount of essential work that has to be undertaken to keep them so. The countryside is constantly changing and without man's intervention, areas that people have enjoyed for centuries would change dramatically.

A team of wardens, with the help of seasonal assistants and volunteers, carry out the demanding task of caring for the Trust's land in South Hampshire.
